Happy First Anniversary to our most dear Anonymouse Ravenclaw, he of the lemon drop eyes and flappity feet.
On April 27, 2003, around 2:00 in the afternoon, Rich and I drove to the airport and accepted a carrier containing one concerned, wide-eyed, little black cat. He meeped once when we were getting ready to put him in the car. He didn't say another word for several days.
Raven spent his first two weeks in California in quarantine as per our vet's instructions. In some ways, his first "real" anniversary will be May 12, the anniversary of the day he was able to leave quarantine in the garage and join the rest of the family with the run of the house.
Over the past year, Raven has gained 4 pounds and is now our third biggest kitty at 12.8. He talks a lot these days. He's sleek and happy and has a round little belly which he dearly loves to have rubbed. He's managed to convince Mezzaluna (whom he seems to adore) that he's OK. He plays chase with everybody, wrestles Squirrel (hatth!), admires Bebop (and occasionally tries to chew on him), loves the Keebler tree, races through the house, skitters across the kitchen floor, and has been learning to take naps snuggled with Vicki. He still has eyes like lemon drops and we do so love his flappity feet.
Thank you Bari for bringing this wonderful boycat into our lives - and for swallowing your fear and putting him on that airplane a year ago! I do think Raven was meant to be with us.
Ohhhhhhh I just got chills remembering that day so vividly as you described it. Raven is so fortunate to have such a loving home with doting parents and a fabulous furrfamily to share each day. I was indeed a basket case handing him over to the airlines...I had, after all, never put a kitty on an airplane for a 1000 mile ride to another home!!! I think Raven and I both took a leap of faith that day!His photos certainly show how happy he is, and Vicki's constant updates are a joy for Jim and me, we still feel very close to him, watching him grow through Vicki's words. Vicki, it is fun to see his "big" footies - so obvious in the one where Richard is holding him!
Many, many thanks, Vicki, for continuing to share Raven with us. Attached is a photo taken just before we left for the airport and a couple of others as well.
Hug that big black fuzzball for Jim and me, please! We love you, RAVEN!
Bari
