Oooh. That's not a cat!

raccoon-sm

We had a visitor on the back porch last night - a young raccoon at the feeder. We all heard him gallumph across the sunroom roof. Bebop and I went out onto the screenporch to investigate.

The raccoon saw me and walked halfway over to the door, on the porch rail, then lay on top of the rail (it's got a 4" wide top) and looked at me. Such a cute face. Too bad I didn't have a camera (but then, the lighting on the porch isn't very good; the picture here is from the web).

Poor thing was having such a hard time reaching the corn cob. He has to stick his arm through the pigeon-proofing wire up to his shoulder and streeeeetch. I asked Rich if he'd help me rearrange the feeder this weekend so the corn is closer to the wire!

I felt so bad for the raccoon that I slipped a small corncob out the door onto the porch. After a few minutes he came over and got it, then took it down onto the sunroom roof and had a good time munching. This morning there's an empty cob surrounded by all the kernels that fell that he didn't bother to eat :-) But he did eat most of them.

Feeder Adjustment

Rich adjusted the interior of the feeder today, making the corn cob easier (I hope!) for the raccoons to reach.
