Two Years Ago...

On April 21, 2003, Bari DuBois wrote to one of my favorite (cat-related) mailing lists:

OK...here I am again with a rescue baby that needs a home.

He's been a backyard visitor now for 3 months or so. At first I feared he was a "she" and there was a possibility of getting pregnant. Saturday we trapped him, and this morning the vet gave him a clean bill of health - only worms which will be gone in a week.

He is a total love...sweet as can be, and just snuggles all over the place! I have him in the "foster" bedroom for now and I have sent his photos to a local friend (the one who adopted Tucker last year, if you remember), because he had said he might be interested in another sweet boy.

I was smitten, totally and completely.

I wrote back:

Wow. If I didn't hate air travel as much as I do I would be heading to Texas.

Oh My Goodness Gracious! What a gorgeous kitty. And so very very lucky to come to your backyard.

Then I started having strange thoughts. I wrote to Bari:

I shouldn't even be asking this but... would you consider flying the cat this way?
Try not to panic; we're just asking hypothetical questions at the moment... stay calm :-)
We're just south of San Francisco, not far from SFO.

While Bari worked on taking deep calming breaths, I worked on Rich...

Please oh please oh please can we find a way to get him here from Texas?

And my dear darling hubby said Yes!

On 04/22/2003, I was able to write back to Bari:

Oh, my lovable hubby says I can keep working on this. God bless men who love kitties.

Plans were made, the vet was visited (twice), the airline was called, paperwork was gathered and sent back and forth...
