We have a two-storey house with the entrance halfway between 1st and 2nd floors. A half flight of stairs goes up and a half flight goes down. This makes for a nice entrance area, tall enough for our 7-ft cat tree.
This also makes it fun when I'm partway down the lower flight of stairs and one of the cats comes sauntering (or bouncing :-) out of the kitchen and across the living room, at what is now my eye level. I often stop and we have a little tete a tete on the stairs.
