Never believe that cats don't understand what's said to them (or around them). They may not care, but they understand.
(OK, if you start talking about weird abstract concepts like quantum physics, they may not have the education, and they'll probably get bored and tune out, but general, concrete, everyday things? Cats know exactly what you're saying).
So there I was, sitting at the computer, typing along. I'd been there for the past couple of hours.
Squirrel was sitting near my elbow, having pretty much given up on anything interesting happening anytime soon. Bebop was in the bucket above my monitor, dozing.
Then I looked up and said "Dinner? Anybody want dinner?"
And Bebop perked up, bounced up, leaped down out of the bucket and beat Squirrel out of my office by about a yard, with me trailing behind, laughing.
Oh yes, cats understand what you say.
